78-73 Overtime Victory over Campbell Hall
This PD Cartoon by Cartoonist Ted Crow turned out to be prophetic. #21 for Campbell Hall High School is future UCLA prospect Jrue Holiday. Our Varsity St. Ed's Eagles basketball team outlasted Jrue Holiday and the Campbell Hall High School team from Los Angeles in overtime, 78-73.
Our Varsity Eagles Basketball team opened their season in dramatic fashion on national television on ESPN's National High School game of the week. What a great game to kickoff the ESPN season. Campbell Hall High School from North Hollywood, California and their star guard Jrue Holiday lived up to their advance billing and led the Eagles at one point by as many as 13 points. But the Eagles, led by Delvon Roe, Thomas Prichard and Frankie Dobbs, were not to be denied, coming back to win in overtime. Campbell Hall was the defending California State Champion and posted a record of 31-1 last season. They featured one of the top players in the country in 6'4" point guard Jrue Holiday. The sellout crowd saw one of the greatest games every played in St. Edward's Varsity Gym and so did the nationwide audience on ESPN2.
The student sections covered the stage and a full section of the stands as the Screaming Eagles were the 6th man for St. Edward.
