CAMP SUMMARY:

This winter, St. Edward High is proud to offer its first-ever Film Camp for 7th and 8th grade boys. In this six-session camp, students will gain full access to St. Edward’s brand-new, state-of-the-art iMac lab, in which each student will discover how to plan, light, film, and edit an original short film. The course will conclude with a screening session in Week 6, during which students will have the opportunity to display their work before an audience of parents and friends.

WEEK 1:
Students are introduced to fundamentals of cinematography and are challenged to compose photographs that demonstrate their newfound knowledge of how to utilize cinematic devices to "tell a story.”

WEEK 2:
Students are introduced to the fundamentals of camera motion and operation (i.e. hardware operation);  groups will enter the pre-production stage (i.e. storyboarding, concept-sketching, etc.).

Students will watch various short films from the "Short of the Week” to demonstrate how young, inventive directors have utilized cinematic devices to tell a story.

Groups who complete their pre-production will begin their production stage (i.e. arranging lights, acting out scenes, etc.).

WEEK 3:
Students will continue to work through the production phase of their short films.

WEEK 4:
Students will be formally introduced  to the fundamentals of post-production (i.e. how to use Apple's iMovie effectively).

WEEK 5:

Students will continue to collaborate in the editing process while using the editing software.

Students will participate in a "Peer Review” through which each student group can receive thoughtful feedback on their film (i.e. feedback that will empower each group to make as effective a final "cut” or edit as possible).

WEEK 6:
Students will put the final touches on their short films before hosting a screening party for their families and friends at St. Edward High School.
