Gaining Admission to St. Edward High School

Welcome!

students_with_smiles_picHere's all the important information you'll need as you begin the exciting process of applying to St. Edward High School. Transitioning from middle school/grade school to high school is quite a big change, so we'll try to make it as easy for you as we can. Please contact any member of our admissions team with your questions.

Since students are the most important part of our school, we have a student ambassador program to greet visitors. The Student Ambassador Program at St. Edward High School comprises an outstanding group of young men who assist our school in many capacities. Ambassadors work with our Shadow Program, help with Open Houses and Placement Tests, and collaborate with alumni and the community to educate people about St. Edward High School. This elite group of gentlemen is the window for prospective students to see what our school is all about.

Open Houses are a great way to tour our school, meet faculty and current students, and learn more about athletics, clubs, and organizations. We also have sessions that run every half hour on our pre-engineering program. We encourage you to register for this event! Call the Admission Office for more information.

Admission Philosophy

St. Edward High School admits students of all races and ethnic backgrounds. We look for well-rounded students who want to develop spiritually, mentally, socially and physically.

Admission Policy

Admission decisions for students entering grade nine will be based on review of the following:

  • St. Edward Placement Test
  • Completed Application Form
  • Recommendation Form
  • Transcripts (6th, 7th, and 8th grade) including the most recent semester
  • Standardized test results (e.g., Iowa Basics)
  • Attendance and Disciplinary Records
  • Projected ability to make a positive contribution to the St. Edward Community

Admission Procedures

Students applying for admission to the ninth grade must take the St. Edward Placement test.

Students attending a Catholic grade school will automatically receive an application from their school in early January.

Public school students need to request an application from the St. Edward Admission Office and then call their school to have their transcripts sent to St. Edward High School.

By placing St. Edward as their first choice on the Diocesan application, Catholic school students will have their official transcripts from all previous elementary schools forwarded to St. Edward.

When ALL the materials are received, the Admissions Committee will review all applications and render a decision.

All eighth grade applicants reviewed in January are sent a letter indicating the decision of the Admission Committee in early February.

Applications received after January will be considered on a space available basis.

Shadow Program (Visiting St. Ed's)

Shadowing is a great opportunity to spend the day with a current St. Edward student, sit in on classes, meet our teachers and talk with our students. To schedule a visit call the Admission Office (216-521-2204) and speak to Mrs. Reese or Mr. Whidden about a convenient date. Please call at least a week in advance.

We schedule shadow visits on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the months of September through the middle of April. A confirmation letter will be sent to each student after each visit is scheduled with more information. Shadows are asked to dress in the St. Edward High School dress code on the day of their scheduled visit. This includes dress shirt, tie, dress pants and dress shoes. Shadows will also receive a free lunch on the day of their visit.
