College Representative Visits

College Representative Visits to St. Edward High School

For the schedule of college representative visits select Family Connection and log in or enter as a guest.

We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to attend these sessions to meet with admissions representatives from colleges in which you may be interested.

Please understand and follow these procedures:

  • Visits will be announced during homeroom announcements
  • Note the day and time of the college representative’s visit.
  • At least one day before the visit, register in the guidance office by placing your name on the college’s registration form.
  • Take a permission form. The teacher (or teachers) from whose class (or classes) you will need to miss time must sign this form. They do have the right to refuse permission to attend.
  • The signed form must be brought with you to the guidance center for the session. You will not be allowed to participate without a signed form.
  • It should be understood that you are to be on your best behavior. The impression you make on the admission representative should be positive.

Representatives will ask if there are questions. The questions you ask should be unique to your interests and not easily found in standard college materials. So cross out the questions like, "How many people are in the freshman class?" Instead, ask what the two or three most popular majors are (that can give you a good idea of the main interests of the majority of the students). If you have a particular major in mind, don't ask "How good is major X?" No college representative will tell you that a program is bad. Instead, ask how many students take that major; what research faculty members are involved in (and the opportunities for undergraduates to participate in it); or what courses you would take your first year in a particular major. Students who are undecided should ask about what services and support are available to help them explore various majors. Other things you can ask about: extracurricular activities, what kinds of students the college is looking for, what percentage of students receive financial aid, and other concerns unique to your interests and situation.
