The Gospel of Luke recounts Jesus‘ telling of the parable of the Good Samaritan, a vivid depiction of the boundless compassion and love that all of his followers are called to embrace. At the end of the passage Jesus invites his followers to emulate the mercy displayed by the Samaritan man; “Go and Do Likewise.” Centuries later, as disciples of the same Christ, we too are invited to heed this same call. As we begin a new school year focused on the pillar of Servant Leadership, these words of Jesus are before us as a reminder of our commitment to bring his justice and mercy to the world.

2019-2020 THEME

"If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another's feet.  I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do." - John 13:14-15

“As disciples of Jesus we stand side by side with all people.” This passage, from the Holy Cross Constitutions, describes a commitment to Christ-like servant leadership, the very heart of our mission as a Holy Cross Community. Each day we are all challenged to live in a way that reflects this call, to place others’ needs before our own, to reach out to those who have been overlooked and pushed to the margins and, as the Constitutions state, to “come not just as servants but as their neighbors.”

At the heart of Christ-like servant leadership is a deep sense of humility, striving, imperfect as we are, to imitate Christ, the master and teacher, who bent down to wash the feet of his own disciples. Here too, the Holy Cross Constitutions offer us words of encouragement and guidance, reminding us “that the farther we go in giving, the more we stand to receive.” We invite you and your family to join us this school year as we work together as a community of faith to share the love of God with the world.

"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me." - Matthew 25:35-36

"As disciples of Jesus we stand side by side with all people. Like them we are burdened by the same struggles and beset by the same weaknesses; like them we are made new by the same Lord's love; like them we hope for a world where justice and love prevail." - Holy Cross Constitutions 2:12

"Our mission sends us across borders of every sort. Often we must make ourselves at home among more than one people or culture, reminding us again that the farther we go in giving the more we stand to receive."

- Holy Cross Constitutions 2:17

"Christ was anointed to bring good news to the poor, release for prisoners, sight for the blind, restoration for every broken victim. Our efforts, which are His, reach out to the afflicted and in a preferential way to the poor and the oppressed. We come not just as servants but as their neighbors, to be with them and of them."

- Holy Cross Constitutions 2:13
