Full-Time Study Hall Monitor
St. Edward High School, a Catholic school in the Holy Cross tradition, educates the hearts and minds of a diverse group of young men to have the competence to see and the courage to act as men of hope for the transformation of the world.
We are looking for a full-time study hall monitor to provide a safe and positive learning environment to our students during study hall. Hours are 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. while students are in session. This is an hourly paid position.
Responsibilities:
- Takes regular attendance of students who should be in study hall and sends attendance names to the school's Attendance Coordinator.
- Maintains order, behavior and movement of students while in study hall.
- Reminds students to use quiet voices while in study hall.
- Holds students accountable to school policies and reports repeated infractions to the Dean of Culture.
- Ensures student safety; intervenes if tempers flair or horseplay is noted.
- Promotes the proper use of school property, such as tables and chairs are free from markings.
- Encourages students to clean up after themselves.
- May answer questions from students directing them to the appropriate source.
- Refers any suspicious behavior or odor to the Dean of Culture.
- Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
- Never leaves students unsupervised, calls for Sub moderator if stepping away is necessary.
- Calls custodial services if needed for cleanup of body fluids or other types of spills.
- May be asked to help with other administrative work as long as the work allows for student monitoring to still occur.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated effective communication with students and school administration
- A firm yet compassionate demeanor
- Good judgment and decision-making techniques
- Ability and willingness to uphold the school’s mission and student policies
- Basic computer experience to take attendance and look up contacts on the St. Edward High School website
