EDSMEN AWARDED WITH FLIGHT MAGAZINE VOLUME 64 SCHOLARSHIP FOR THEIR COMMITMENT AND CREATIVITY The St. Edward Flight Magazine staff produces a yearly literary magazine that features student creative writing, photography and artwork, or any other product of student creativity worthy of publication. Every year, the Flight Magazine awards a student with a $500 scholarship for their commitment to the magazine and creative improvement in their writing skills and artwork. EDSMEN VOLUNTEER AT THE "CAN THE CRUISER" FOOD DRIVE AND HONOR THE MEMORY OF FALLEN EAGLE ALUM Last Saturday, the Logistics and Commercial Standards (LCS) division of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, along with troopers and dispatchers from Post 18 in Cleveland, held their second annual "Can the Cruiser" event at the Giant Eagle store in North Olmsted. This event was part of the third annual "Kenny Velez 0511" Week, during which troopers and staff from the OSP Cleveland District perform community service projects in memory of Trooper Kenny Velez, who was killed in the line of duty in September 2016. ED'S PARTNERS WITH CHALLENGE AMERICA TO HOST CAMVETS MAKE-A-THON St. Edward High School teamed up with Challenge America, Cleveland Clinic Innovations and the VA Northeast Ohio Health Care System to help launch Challenge America: Makers for Veterans (CAMVETS) on April 25-27 in the Joseph & Helen Lowe Institute for Innovation. Challenge America, a nonprofit based in Colorado, created CAMVETS to seek innovative solutions for injured veterans with the help of engineering and design professionals. ED'S SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TEAM COMPETES IN THIRD CONSECUTIVE STATE COMPETITION Last weekend, St. Ed's Science Olympiad Team competed in their third consecutive year at the Ohio Science Olympiad State Tournament at The Ohio State University among the top 40 teams in Ohio. Science Olympiad, a STEM-based competition for high school students, hosts 23 different events which include exams, labs and building events that range in a variety of topics from Earth Science, Chemistry and Physical Science to Technology and Engineering. EDSMAN HONORS LEGACY OF EDSMEN EAGLE SCOUTS WITH DOUBLE EAGLE AWARD James Black '21, a member of the Boy Scout Troop 334 in Avon Lake, has been working since December on his Eagle Scout project called the "Double Eagle Award." James' project includes creating an online database through Blackboard that will allow students to access an entire list of St. Ed's alumni who are also Eagle Scouts as well as a wall plaque that will be displayed at St. Edward High School and feature nameplates honoring each Double Eagle.
