STUDENTS COMBINE GAMING AND CODING TO UNDERSTAND LOGIC AND PROBLEM-SOLVING This week in Mr. Anthony Mortimer's Computer Science I elective course, freshmen and sophomore students put the computer programming concepts they've been learning to the test through game development. This week's unit focused on Boolean logic, the idea that all statements are either true or false. Using the Boolean logic, students used side-by-side coding in a console application to create their own "choose your own adventure" game. ED'S HOSTS BLOOD DRIVE TO GIVE BACK IN MEMORY OF MIKEY GEORGE '21 Today, St. Ed's is hosting a blood drive through the American Red Cross in honor of Michael "Mikey" George '21 who passed away from leukemia last school year. During his fight against cancer, Mikey received over 500 pints of blood. The George family turned to the St. Ed's community to help in their efforts in donating 500 pints of blood to those in need of lifesaving blood donations, paying it forward as thanks to the generous donors who helped Mikey along the way. Ken, who grew up in Wheatfield, NY, explained his struggle to stay motivated in high school until his intellectual awakening in college when he decided to pursue journalism. ED'S, PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH AN AUTHENTIC BROADCAST JOURNALISM EXPERIENCE In the 90's, St. Ed's installed televisions in each classroom for students to watch "Channel One," a daily news program for teens that was run by high school students. To add to the content that Channel One broadcasted, St. Ed's created SETV to utilize their film and broadcast technology and to visually communicate morning announcements through a more appealing and interactive platform. ST. EDWARD HIGH SCHOOL CELEBRATES 70 YEARS OF LIVING THE HOLY CROSS MISSION Today marks the 70th anniversary of the opening of St. Edward High School. On September 6, 1949, St. Ed's first principal Br. John William Donoghue, C.S.C., along with Br. Paul Schwoyer and Br. Regis Gendron from Notre Dame, Indiana welcomed the first class of 105 freshman boys to St. Edward High School.
