The High School Placement Test

The HSPT is a standardized, multiple-choice exam that measures academic abilities on a national scale. It includes five subsections:

  • Verbal Skills: Assesses a student's vocabulary understanding.
  • Quantitative Skills: Assesses problem-solving abilities involving numbers and calculations.
  • Reading: Assesses comprehension and analysis of texts, as well as critical thinking.
  • Mathematics: Similar to quantitative skills, assesses understanding of mathematical concepts and principles.
  • Language: Assesses understanding of grammar, writing mechanics, and language usage.

Test results, in addition to grades and teacher recommendations, are used for future class placement. High scores on the test can also qualify students for merit scholarships.

  • The test is for eighth-grade boys only. Students may test multiple times if they wish.
  • Pencils are provided.
  • The test takes approximately three hours to complete and calculators are not permitted.
  • There is no test fee, but registration is required.
