MUSIC PERFORMANCE

Symphonic Band

Symphonic Band is offered after school three days a week and begins in November.  Students rehearse and perform high-quality concert repertoire at three concerts during the spring semester, as well as a performance in March that is juried by the Ohio Music Education Association. Performance-based trips are also part of the experience. No prior experience is necessary, but students should be able to play their instrument at a high school level in order to fully participate.

Concert Band

The Concert Band is a class that meets as part of the school day and is a place for students to either learn a new instrument or brush up on their skills in an instrument they already play. Students are encouraged to participate in Solo and Ensemble Adjudication and to perform as a group. No prior experience is necessary, but students should be able to play their instrument at a high school level in order to fully participate.

Jazz Band

Our Jazz Ensemble performs concerts in the spring, attends local Jazz Fests, and performs for school functions. Students form an approximately 20 piece ensemble and bring jazz music of all eras to life. The group rehearses during community period and Fridays after school once marching band season ends.

Our Jazz Combo performs concert in the spring, attends local jazz workshops, and performs for the surrounding community throughout the year. Throughout the year, students will learn about and develop improvisation techniques, aural skills, and performance ability. Daily practice and listening is central to the class. Jazz Combo is a curricular class that meets as a part of the school day and is a 1 credit, year-long course. Students who have taken this course are often featured soloists with the Jazz Ensemble.

Orchestra

String players and select wind and percussionists combine forces to perform classical and contemporary music. The orchestra meets as a class during the regular school day and rehearses every other day, alternating with a study hall during this class period. There is an additional rehearsal on Mondays from 6:30 until 7:10 in winter and spring. Rehearsals for the Pit Orchestra, a volunteer group which performs for our musicals, are after Monday's rehearsals from 7:15 until 9:00 p.m. The Pit Orchestra also rehearses Sunday afternoons from 3:00 until 5:00.  Students who are not able to take Orchestra as a class during the school day and wind/percussion players who will attend the after-school rehearsal may audition to be add-ons for these groups.
