EDSMEN VOLUNTEER TO MAKE MEDICAL DEVICES FOR PATIENTS AROUND THE WORLD

Over spring break, Jason Picha '21 and a few fellow Edsmen stepped up to volunteer in helping make medical devices to support the nutrition of thousands of patients around the world. Jason's father, George Picha M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S., founder and CEO of Applied Medical Technology, Inc. (AMT), mentioned to Jason the need for additional help in making enteral feeding devices and surgical products for patients in need during the COVID-19 crisis. Jason took it upon himself to recruit other Edsmen and came together as a team to work on the AMT production floor and do their part in helping meet the need for extra medical devices at this time.

"Jason and his classmates displayed servant leadership with humility, caring for those who are sick and suffering around the world," says Mr. Picha. While practicing safety procedures and learning how to properly make medical products for those in need, our Edsmen showed a great deal of leadership, self-sacrifice and accountability in offering their services to help others.

With locations in over 40 countries, AMT has received a significant increase in demands for enteral devices and retention systems. Committed to providing the highest level of quality, safety and patient care, AMT is devoted to improving the lives of patients and caregivers during a time when so many are suffering worldwide. "Nutrition is one of the fundamental necessities for survival and our products provide for that need," says Mr. Picha. "I am very proud of what Jason did in taking the act of one and turning it into the action of many. They engaged without pause during their spring break to help fight this pandemic through a local corporation. We as a society need to acknowledge service to mankind, especially when we have skills many do not have, and help our youth learn to lead the way."
