Best of the Week 2019-2020: Excellence in College Prep

ST. ED'S SHARES WELL-WISHES THROUGH VIDEO FOR CLASS OF 2020 ON NATIONAL COLLEGE DECISION DAY

To celebrate National College Decision Day, St. Ed's College Counseling Department wanted our graduating senior class to have a piece of St. Ed's with them to look back on and remember their achievements. By compiling well-wishes and messages of congratulations from St. Ed's faculty and staff and college/university Admission staff members, St. Ed's college counselors wanted to create a video to celebrate the Class of 2020, despite having to postpone the annual, full-day celebration for seniors. Special thanks to Colin Donovan, Class of 2019, for helping create this video for our College Counseling Department. "We are looking forward to the joy of our reunion someday with our fellow colleagues and the senior class to celebrate this special day, but this video highlights our deep love and appreciation for our graduating seniors and how they show their love for our community," says Director of College Counseling Mrs. Moira O'Riordan.

"I love National Decision Day. It's the culmination of hard work and brings to light new opportunities for our students," says Assistant Director of College Counseling Mrs. Desi Rodriguez-Gould. "I knew we had to do something to celebrate. It was important to me that the students know how much we love and care about them during these challenging times. These young men are impressive. During my first Google Hangout session, a number of seniors talked about how this situation is helping prepare them for college, highlighting the way they will better communicate with teachers, excel through remote learning and understand overall academic expectations. It is amazing how they see the positive aspects of this and are already looking for ways to use these developing skills. As usual, they are giving me perspective and teaching me something new."

"In this climate, it is easy to feel like you should give up on your dreams, but we need to show students that when adversity hits, with love and determination, everything is still possible," says College Counselor Ms. Alicia Watts. "I think this year is so special for the Class of 2020 because our whole community has come together during a time of adversity to still congratulate them and celebrate their accomplishments."
