Best of the Week 2019-2020: Holy Cross Values
ST. ED'S COMMUNITY CELEBRATES OUR FACULTY'S WORK AND DEDICATION DURING TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK
As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, the St. Edward community would like to extend their deepest gratitude for our faculty and all educators who continue to provide new learning experiences for students in every learning environment. "Though the adjustment has been a daunting one for educators, it has been inspirational to see St. Edward faculty and staff members share themselves and their talents and support for our students online and through social media," says Dean of Students Mr. Mark Urban. "By embracing adversity, Holy Cross education had many unforeseen challenges when it first established itself in America, so rising above adversity and having deep-rooted faith are foundational tenets of a Holy Cross education. Our teachers have remained focused and engaged in determining their best practices and approaches toward making remote learning a success despite the circumstances. I have great faith that our faculty will continue to optimize their remote instruction pedagogy and look forward to seeing how this time of adversity will sharpen our instruction and curriculum."
Other members of St. Ed's community reflected on the dedication our teachers have shown to providing a well-rounded, Holy Cross education to our Edsmen from afar. "The work our teachers are producing, especially Mr. Anthony Mortimer, Ms. Lydia Munnell and Ms. Maya Wanner, really stands out for me," says Associate Dean of Academics and IB Coordinator Mr. Nick Kuhar. "Despite the vast complications that remote teaching presents to those who teach computer science or film, they have found ways to help students navigate the coursework. Each of those subjects rely on high-powered, specialized on-campus equipment, and our teachers have had to get extra ingenious to deliver meaningful content without our coding software and iMac labs available."
"The counselor teams led by our school counselors and the student support service teams that have been reaching out to students and families have done an incredible job too," says Dean of Academics Mr. Matt Stepnowsky. "This is such a difficult time for everyone and knowing that those two groups of men and women are working so hard to be there for those most in need is not only an essential service to our community, but a great inspiration for me."
"In light of what we are experiencing in our world, it becomes critical that our students have trusted adults they can count on and who have an ability to reach them and connect with them," says VP of Equity and Inclusion Mr. James Knight. "I think our Holy Cross pillar of relationships is priceless in today's climate where there is so much uncertainty."
"Our teachers will never know the impact they have on these men at St. Ed's. We can guarantee they will never forget this time of their lives," says Stewardship Coordinator Mrs. Mo Loesch, on behalf of St. Ed's Mothers' Club. "Teachers will be a part of their story as they tell their future children and grandchildren how they couldn't go to school, hang out with their friends, play sports or even eat at a restaurant. We as a community can't thank them enough for the extra time, effort, patience and compassion they have for our Edsmen." Thank you to our teachers and educators who continue to support our Edsmen and live out their call to provide a Holy Cross education to young men who have the competence to see and the courage to act as men of hope for the transformation of the world.
