ST. ED'S CELEBRATES DIVERSITY WEEK WITH MULTIPLE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES

In celebration of Diversity Week, many affinity groups on campus hosted special events to immerse the community into different cultures, fun activities, and learning opportunities. On Tuesday, PRISM, led by English teacher Shelby Dennstedt and Performing Arts teacher Mrs. Lisa Hirzel, hosted a fun afternoon of karaoke, food and Kahoot! On Wednesday, SALSA led a Cinco de Mayo celebration, highlighting different aspects of the LatinX culture. Cleveland's own Latin jazz music legend Sammy de Leon and his orchestra played live salsa music. Students sampled a selection of authentic Hispanic foods and participated in other fun activities while faculty and staff members rose to the challenge in a hot chili pepper eating contest. On Thursday, St. Ed's French Club, led by hosted a french food tasting spread as well as a Fair Trade Fair where community members could purchase an array of fair trade items from around the world while learning about fair trade principles. "As we wrap up the school year, the Diversity Team thought it would be awesome to have this week be an opportunity to celebrate the various clubs we have at our school for students to learn more about different cultures and diverse perspectives," says VP of Equity and Inclusion James Knight. "All of our groups, from the Muslim Student Association, Diversity Club, and PRISM to SALSA, French Club and our new formed Asian American Club, came together to coordinate this week-long celebration." Next week, St. Ed's Diversity Club will be hosting an alumni panel for our students and our Asian-American Club will be making their introduction to our community. There will be food and opportunities to continue to practice cultural humility and learn about differences.
