ST. ED'S MOCK TRIAL TEAM ACHIEVES CHART-TOPPING SCORES AT DISTRICTS & PLACES FOR REGIONAL COMPETITION

Congratulations to St. Ed's Mock Trial team who participated in their third major tournament of the year last Friday at the OCLRE District Competition. Having prepared for months for this moment, Edsmen not only achieved off-the-chart scores, earning six of eight top awards for four trials, but have officially qualified for the OCLRE Regional Competition on February 17. Congratulations especially goes out to Daniel McNamara '23 and Thomas Lopez '24 who were named "Best Attorney" and Seamus McGinty '23, William Plavan-Masters '23, Daniel Certo '24, and Drew McMaken '24 who were named "Best Witness."

"I'm so excited we qualified for Regionals. We've been working really hard to improve our case and we all work hard together and trust each other," says Daniel Certo. "I'm excited to move forward and represent St. Ed's at Regionals. This whole experience has been new for me, but getting to compete with my friends has been a lot of fun."
"As a freshman and sophomore, I was a witness and just jumped into the role of attorney this year and I feel like it's a much better fit for me. In preparation for Districts, I read a book called 'Winning Objections,' a guidebook which gives you the in's and out's of the rules of evidence. It definitely gave me an edge to making objections in the courtroom and how/when to use objections effectively," says Thomas. "Having won the first competition, the team focus is certainly on regionals now. We'll be putting in some hard work in these next few weeks, polishing our material and performance. The most rewarding aspect is being able to perform in court again and we're ready to get down to work. I'm confident we can go 2-0 and make it all the way!"
