FLIGHT MAGAZINE: VOL 68 RECEIVES EXCELLENT RANKING IN THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF TEACHERS OF ENGLISH

Congratulations to the staff of Flight Magazine Volume 68 for receiving an "Excellent" ranking from the National Council of Teachers of English in the REALM: Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazine annual contest. The REALM program is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing and this past year, schools in 42 states and five countries nominated 262 student magazines for the 2022 annual contest.
"Three years ago I was entrusted with the leadership of Flight Magazine. Although my artistic background is primarily in photography, I know the dedication and thought that goes into producing a piece of art or writing. Our staff worked to make sure this magazine presented the works of artists in a way that honors their vision. Volume 68 is the raw emotion, thought, and creativity of the St. Edward student body and, as always, we hope that our audience enjoys the magazine as much as we enjoyed curating it," says previous Editor-in-Chief of Flight Magazine John Kutney '22. Along with John, the St. Edward recipients of this esteemed recognition include Evan Bork '22, Max Hoelker '22, Ben Zangas '23 and Matt Quinn '23.
"Moderating Flight for the past ten years has been a fulfilling, yet daunting challenge, but our students' creativity is at a high thanks to the courses offered by our Visual & Fine Arts department and our award-winning Film department," says English teacher and Flight moderator Mark Urban. "There can still be a stigma attached to vulnerable creative expression among teenage young men, but it's exciting to see our staff encourage students to express themselves through art with such intensity and significance that reflects a range of experiences, emotions and energy."
