ST. ED'S MARCHING EAGLES CELEBRATE THEIR AAA DIVISION FIRST PLACE WIN

Last weekend, St. Ed's Marching Eagles took home their first win of the season, placing first in the AAA Division and second overall at a competition in Erie, PA. "While a lot of things have been excitingly changing here at St. Ed's, the Marching Band is no stranger to adapting quickly and reinventing ourselves and this year's group is no exception. They have risen to the challenge and have excelled at what they do," says Director of Performing Arts Angelo Kortyka '98. Performing a competition repertoire based on holiday-themed music, entitled, "Home for the Holidays," the Marching Eagles have explored the musical triptych of American holidays throughout the year, starting with "Auld Lang Syne" and finishing with Christmas classics.

"Having a good first run in our competitive season is great, and the students' performance last weekend was excellent. The judging panel gave us a lot of great feedback on how to improve even more for our upcoming shows," says Mr. Kortyka. "All bands go on this journey during the fall and now we need to keep our focus forward to continue to post up great results. Ultimately, our only adversaries are ourselves at these contests, but our Marching Eagles have done a great job helping each other this season."

As our Marching Eagles head into this week, competing on the Ohio Music Education Association circuit, they hope to qualify for states with a superior rating while still playing at our St. Ed's Football games to keep school spirit alive.
