Best of the Week 2022-2023: Holy Cross Values

ST. ED'S REFLECTS ON HOW WE CAN WORK TOGETHER AND SUPPORT EACH OTHER IN TRANSFORMING THE WORLD

On Thursday, Fr. Tom Looney, C.S.C, a Holy Cross priest and President of King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA, visited St. Ed's to celebrate the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception with our school community. With intentional musical arrangements to honor Mary and recognizing Mary's trust in God, the St. Ed's community took the time to reflect on Mary's sacrifice and hope in God's plan to see how we too can live out the same hope today.

"Today we celebrate God's desire to save humankind and he needed Mary for his plan for salvation. In the Immaculate Conception, God trusted Mary to bring transformation to the world. Like Mary, God needs you to say 'yes'," says Fr. Tom. "God needs you so you can become the person He wants you to be. None of us can be what God wants us to be by ourselves. By saying 'yes' to God like Mary did, we can help transform the world. We can achieve so much when we're surrounded by a community of people."

In the spirit of Christmas, we receive the gift of Mary's trust in God and willingness to live out His plan. In this season of Hope and in connection with Thursday's homily, St. Ed's works together through our annual Virtual Giving Tree to give back to the community in need during the holidays. Our community extends an invitation to all to participate in this tradition and support our Labre Ministry's wishlist to provide additional resources that go directly to the unhoused in our community.
