ST. ED'S HELPS THOSE IN NEED DURING THE WINTER SEASON THROUGH ANNUAL WINTER COAT & BLANKET DRIVE

The annual St. Ed's Winter Coat and Blanket Drive has already kicked off for the season, taking place during the four home basketball games this month. Thanks to Noah Hash ‘25 and Padraig McMahon ‘24 (pictured above) and many other student volunteers who have helped with the drive collection, winter coats and blankets will soon be distributed to those served by the St. Ed's Labre Ministry, The City Mission, the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless (NEOCH), and The Metanoia Project.

"This experience has helped me to see that we all have clothing to wear and keep us warm but there are others who don't have much or any of these," says Joel Chavez '23. "Donating is important because it helps others. We may donate things because we don't like them, but someone else may love it and value it. The same thing can be said about things we make, such as a blanket. When we make something for someone else, that person will know and feel very appreciated that you took the time and effort to make them something. In general doing these things helps bring smiles."

"Because of this service I will try to do more. I really got a grasp on how people are freezing this winter. These people need all of the help they can get," adds Declan Loftus '25.

Student volunteers will be collecting again at tonight's home game in the St. Ed's Main Gym at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and again on January 26. Bins for the drive collection will also be available in the Varsity Gym foyer through January 26 if you cannot make it to the game(s) but still want to donate and help those in need. Men's and women's new and gently used coats are preferred, and your support is greatly appreciated.
