ST. ED'S COMMUNITY CELEBRATES OUR LADY OF SORROWS, PATRONESS OF THE CONGREGATION OF HOLY CROSS

This Thursday, St. Ed's community gathered together to celebrate Our Lady of Sorrows, the patroness of the Congregation of Holy Cross. The Holy Cross Constitutions says, "She is our special patroness, a woman who bore much she could not understand and who stood fast. To her many sons and daughters, whose devotions ought to bring them often to her side, she tells much of this daily cross and its daily hope."

At the beginning of the week, Campus Minister Cari Foster and Student Ministers led a prayer service to reflect on our patroness and prepare ourselves to be fully present in celebration of her during yesterday's all-school mass. Through a reflection exercise during Advisory, students were able to share how they have seen or experienced hope so far this school year and to reflect on the strength of Mary and how we can be more like her. In the days leading up to St. Ed's celebration of Our Lady of Sorrows, Student Ministers also planned various activities to help the community learn more about why "Our Lady of Sorrows" is such an important title for Mary. One activity was an "Our Lady of Sorrows" scavenger hunt, where students had to find an icon of Our Lady of Sorrows that was hidden throughout the school in different spaces in order to win a prize.

This week, we remember Our Lady of Sorrows, our Holy Cross patroness, Queen of Martyrs, for her strength, perseverance and hope. Additionally, St. Ed's brought back our monthly school theme awards, recognizing those who have been committed to living out the theme, and granted the first "Made New" school theme awards to Theology teacher John Barrett '11 and Garrick Kemer '26.
