ST. ED'S SENIOR STUDENT MINISTERS LAUNCH NEW CONCEPT FOR A "FOOD & FAITH" RETREAT

This summer, a group of senior Student Ministers created a variety of new retreat opportunities targeted to underclassmen that focus on different skills or interests for their peers to learn. The first retreat of the year will be the upcoming "Food & Faith" Retreat, emphasizing the power of breaking bread together, forming connections while working as a team to cook meals together, and looking at how Jesus would use a meal to reveal himself and the aspects of his mission and ministry to those around him.

"The impetus behind this retreat was to provide Edsmen with a way to meet other peers across all grade levels, while sharing in the opportunity of learning how to cook," says Mark Hauptman '23. "As a young man, food is extremely important to me and I could not think of a better way to bond than over cooking a meal with my brothers. Preparing food for others is a great symbol of self-sacrifice and I hope this sentiment can be shared with others through this unique experience."

This week, students will be visiting Fr. Chuck Butkowski '97 at St. Adalbert Church in Berea to use their kitchen and gathering hall facilities to host this retreat. "Students have been hard at work planning a menu of recipes to tackle together and creating activities that connect how everyday action, like eating a meal, can be connected through faith," says Campus Minister Cari Foster.
