IB Diploma Program

Each year, approximately 50 St. Edward seniors proudly earn the IB Diploma.

Recognized around the world for its emphasis on critical thinking, inquiry, and independent research, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma is widely regarded as one of the strongest preparations for success in college and beyond.

Each year, approximately 15–20% of St. Edward seniors pursue the IB Diploma. Candidates complete a demanding two-year course of study in grades 11 and 12 while also conducting original research, engaging in meaningful service, and exploring complex issues through interdisciplinary learning. The experience challenges students to think deeply, communicate effectively, and manage the kind of sustained academic work expected at the university level.

IB Diploma Requirements:

  • A full slate of advanced IB coursework across six subjects: literature, language acquisition, history, the sciences, mathematics, and electives (the arts, business, computer science, and more).
  • Theory of Knowledge: An in-depth, two-year class that encourages students to explore the nature of knowledge and how we come to understand the world.
  • Reflective Service: The Creativity, Activity, Service project fosters personal growth, physical activity, and reflective service.
