Admission Testing

The High School Placement Test is offered throughout the fall for eighth-grade boys.

As part of the admission process, all eighth-grade applicants must take the High School Placement Test.

There is no cost to take the test and eighth-grade boys can take it as many times as they wish. During the exam, parents enjoy an informative presentation. The school's leadership team will discuss the uniqueness of a St. Edward education–including our Holy Cross mission, IB curriculum, and innovative mindset.

Mark your calendar! The HSPT for the class of 2030 will be offered on the following dates:

  • Saturday, October 11
  • Saturday, October 25
  • Saturday, November 8

About the Test

The High School Placement Test is a standardized, multiple-choice exam that measures academic abilities on a national scale. It includes five subsections:

  • Verbal Skills: Assesses a student's vocabulary understanding.
  • Quantitative Skills: Assesses problem-solving abilities involving numbers and calculations.
  • Reading: Assesses comprehension and analysis of texts, as well as critical thinking.
  • Mathematics: Similar to quantitative skills, assesses understanding of mathematical concepts and principles.
  • Language: Assesses understanding of grammar, writing mechanics, and language usage.

Test results, in addition to grades and teacher recommendations, are used for future class placement. High scores on the test can also qualify students for merit scholarships.
