Theology Curriculum

Theology classes provide a welcoming environment where Edsmen explore their faith while learning to respect and appreciate the beliefs of others.

The influence of the Brothers of Holy Cross permeates every aspect of religious education at St. Edward. Their values foster an environment where all are welcome and valued.

Jesus asks hundreds of questions in the Gospels, and he rarely offers simple answers.

He asks questions to provoke thought, drive home points, and expose duplicity. Jesus listens and engages with others to lead them to deeper understanding.

Inspired by this approach, St. Edward’s Theology Department fosters an atmosphere of free inquiry and thought. We believe that studying theology is not merely an academic endeavor but a call to transform both the individual and the world.

Edsmen engage in theology throughout all four years of high school, encouraging a meaningful and enduring exploration of faith. Learners are challenged to examine their beliefs, understand their foundations, and define what they stand for.

Theology classes delve into contemporary topics, like morality and justice, through a Catholic lens. The approach sparks respectful ecumenical dialogue and promotes inter-religious understanding.

Edsmen take the following semester-long courses—all taught by a highly educated faculty of laypeople:

  • Grade 9: Scripture and Christology
  • Grade 10: Paschal Mystery and Church-Ecclesiology
  • Grade 11: Sacraments and Morality
  • Grade 12: Catholic Social Teaching, World Religions and Ecumenism
