Temporary Percussion Instructor (Part-Time)

Position Description: St. Edward High School has a fantastic opportunity available for a percussion instructor for the 2026 band season, beginning June 1 and working through the end of band season in November or December. The percussion instructor will be tasked with teaching battery and front ensemble, basic playing, movement technique, part placement, and performance preparation. Rehearsal schedule: Mondays and Thursdays, 3:45–5:45 p.m., and Tuesdays, 6–9 p.m.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach all music for performances to the battery and front ensemble.
  • Ensures that band activities support the school’s mission and provide a safe and supportive band experience.
  • Exhibits appropriate, professional behavior, positive attitude, and work ethic as expected by a youth leader.
  • Assists with percussion tryouts from June 2 to June 6.
  • Attends the majority of band rehearsals and all adjudicated performances.
  • Works closely with the band director and assistant band director to understand deadlines, modify parts as needed, and support and enforce school rules and standards.
  • Keeps students engaged and creates a culture of participation and respect.
  • Performs other band-related duties as needed.

Requirements:

  • Exhibits a passion for music.
  • Proficiency in playing and instructing others to play percussion instruments.
  • Experience writing for percussion, including both battery and front ensemble.
  • Minimum 2 years of music instruction experience is preferred. Past participation in competitive marching band or drum corps is desired.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Successful BCI/FBI background screen and can Cleveland Diocese Virtus training.
