Rosina Catalan's love of the Classics traces back to her first Latin teacher at Lake Catholic High School—“one of the most excellent women ever to live.”
When Catalan took her first teaching job in Indianapolis, she remembers thinking about the responsibility that came with choosing the same career as a teacher who had meant so much to her. For Catalan, teaching Latin is about much more than vocabulary and conjugation.
“Stepping into the Latin classroom feels less like taking on a teaching role and more like joining a long, honorable tradition,” she says. “Latin has been passed down through generations of dedicated educators who taught us to see the world through its words.”
Now, she is excited to carry that tradition into the classroom at St. Edward and show students that a language thousands of years old still has plenty to say.
And yes, she really does love the ancient world that much. When she isn’t running her children, Bernard, Abdul, and Nora, to activities and sports, Catalan spends her free time brushing up on Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics or learning more about Etruscan culture.
