A New Way to Support St.Edward Scholarships

A new way to support the next generation of Edsmen is coming in 2027—and this time, the opportunity reaches across the country.

Beginning January 1, the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit, commonly known as the Education Freedom Tax Credit, will offer a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit for eligible contributions that fund student scholarships.

The Eagle Ohio Tax Credit Fund has allowed Ohio taxpayers to help make a St. Edward education more affordable for years. The new federal program will give alumni, parents, and friends throughout the United States a similar opportunity to turn their tax dollars into tuition assistance for Edsmen.

St. Edward plans to participate and is reviewing the proposed federal rules in preparation. Details about eligibility, tax credit limits, and how to contribute will follow as the school prepares to welcome gifts in 2027.

Where things stand today:

  • The U.S. Treasury and IRS released proposed rules for the program on October 1, 2026.
  • Ohio has opted into the program, allowing scholarship organizations serving Ohio students to participate.
  • Only contributions made on or after January 1, 2027, can qualify. Gifts made in 2026 do not qualify for the federal credit.
