Delvon Roe ’08, one of the greatest basketball players in St. Edward history, will be inducted into the Howard E. Ferguson Athletic Hall of Fame on January 16. Join us to celebrate his achievements and honor all the 2025 inductees!

As a junior, Roe helped lead the Eagles to an undefeated regular season and 25 straight wins. He was a team captain; a Rivals five-star player; and the number 11 player overall in the nation by Scout.com. He was also a Sporting News First-Team All-American; the 2007 Plain Dealer Player of the Year; and was named first team All-Ohio; Jordan Brand Classic Team; and EA Sports National Junior of the Year.

In his senior year, Roe might be best remembered for his performance against Campbell Hall from California—a game that was broadcast on ESPN2 in front of a packed crowd at the Eagles’ Nest, including his future college coach, Tom Izzo. After trailing by 13 points in the third quarter, the Eagles staged a dramatic comeback, capped by Roe slamming home an authoritative dunk that gave St. Edward the lead. The Eagles would later win the game in overtime by a score of 78-73, and Roe’s dunk garnered national attention as one of SportsCenter’s Top 10 Plays.

After graduating from St. Edward, Roe continued his basketball career at Michigan State University, where he started as a freshman, played in the national championship game, and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman team. As a sophomore, Roe remained a starter and helped Michigan State to its second straight Final Four appearance.

While in college, Roe discovered his passion for acting and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Roe is now a member of the Screen Actors Guild and has appeared in commercials, TV shows, and movies, including BET show Games People Play and the movie Love and Honor, starring Liam Hemsworth.

Today, Roe lives in California with his wife, Bianca, and his twelve-year-old daughter, Destinie. He works in high school education as the Dean of Character Formation and Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at St. Genevieve High School in Panorama City, and despite his distance from Ohio, Roe maintains his passion for St. Edward, saying, “I bleed Green and Gold!” Roe’s family ties to the St. Edward basketball program have remained strong, as he is the son of Tracy Blanton and longtime assistant coach Delvon Blanton, and the brother of former basketball standout Devontae Blanton ’20.
