Alex Boone '05, an All-Ohio, All-Big 10, and NFL football player, will be inducted into the Howard E. Ferguson Athletic Hall of Fame on January 16. Join us to celebrate his achievements and honor all the 2025 inductees!

Alex Boone ’05, a self-proclaimed “St. Ed’s kid from West Park,” was a standout football player in high school, college, and the NFL.

At St. Edward, he was a three-year starter at offensive tackle and a member of the 2003 state runner-up team his junior year. He was selected for the USA Today and Parade All-American teams and was a national top-20 recruit by Rivals.com. He was also a two-time All-Ohio selection.

Always a proud Eagle, Alex looks back fondly on his years at St. Edward. He has the greatest appreciation for people like Coach Dave Holian, Coach Matt Levindofske, and Coach John Gibbons, who pushed him because they demanded the absolute best, on and off the field. “They treated me like family,” Boone said.

After graduating from St. Edward, Boone was a four-year starter at The Ohio State University, where he helped the Buckeyes win four conference titles and was twice named All-Big Ten.

Following college, Boone entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent and was signed by the San Francisco 49ers to their practice squad in 2009. During the 2010 season, Boone made his long-awaited NFL debut and would quickly become a staple of the 49ers’ offensive line, viewed by many to be among the best in the NFL. Two years later, Boone started at right guard for the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII. In total, Boone played 106 NFL games over the course of nine seasons. He also played in eight playoff games, starting in six of them.

Today, Boone owns Brute Gym, where he trains college offensive lineman to go into the NFL. He lives in Minnesota with his wife, Dana, and his four children: Johnny, Karmyn, Kailani, and Justus. Boone is the son of Amy Boone and the grandson of Noreen and Richard Sulzer. He also has an older brother, James, who graduated from St. Edward in 2003, and a younger sister, Julianna.
