The newly dedicated Joyce Buick GMC Field is more than a state-of-the-art turf—it’s a symbol of enduring support, community spirit, and the life-changing power of athletics at St. Edward High School.

Made possible through the generosity of Mike Joyce ’70, his wife Kate, their family, and Joyce Buick GMC, the field will serve athletes, coaches, parents, and fans across a wide range of sports for years to come.

"Mike and Kate Joyce have been loyal supporters of many key initiatives at St. Ed’s—from the Holy Cross Society, to the Wings Auction, to our last campaign,” says Paul Mocho ’85, Vice President of Institutional Advancement. A proud alumnus, Joyce was honored with the 2019 Bronze Eagle Award in recognition of his commitment to the school’s mission.

“It’s a real honor to be able to do this,” Joyce shared during the field’s dedication. “As I look around the room, I see so many people who have done so much for St. Ed’s. We’re so grateful to be able to do our part.”

That spirit of humility and partnership made Joyce Buick GMC the perfect choice when the school began seeking a sponsor for the field.

“When we talked about naming the field and having a partner, it was really important for the school that we find the right partner,” says President KC McKenna ’00. “We’re so grateful to Mike, his wife Kate, their family, and Joyce Buick GMC for stepping up. Getting to know Mike personally over the years, there was no better choice than the Joyce family.”

For McKenna, the field’s significance extends beyond competition. “This field means a lot to us, and it means a lot to our students,” he says. “We talk about transformation all the time, and athletics is a way to transform lives. I know that a lot of kids will have their lives transformed because of the support provided by the Joyce family.”

Now and for years to come, Joyce Buick GMC Field will stand as a testament to that transformation—and to the power of giving back.
