Game On: Inclusion in Motion

Side by side on the field and court, they move as one—laughing between plays, locking in for the next moment, celebrating every small victory with unfiltered joy. A Best Buddy leans in with encouragement; a St. Andre Scholar makes the play; teammates erupt. Together, they experience the same highs that define Eagle athletics—teamwork, competition, friendship, and the thrill of being part of something bigger than themselves.

That is the heart of Unified Sports at St. Edward High School. Part of the Special Olympics movement, Unified Sports brings students with and without intellectual disabilities together on the same team—not as separate groups, but as teammates. What grows from that shared experience reaches far beyond the final whistle. Confidence builds. Friendships form naturally. Students learn from one another simply by competing, celebrating, and showing up together.

That spirit is felt throughout the school community. Through the St. Andre Scholars program, students with moderate intellectual and developmental disabilities are fully immersed in student life at St. Edward. In classrooms, hallways, assemblies, and athletic competitions, they are not set apart—they are an important part of the community and the relationships that make it strong.
