Whether on the football field, baseball diamond, or basketball court, Bob Adams brought the same approach to competition: preparation, hard work, and a desire to prove himself. A Cleveland-area native who graduated from St. James School in Lakewood, Adams arrived at St. Edward eager to compete—and quickly found opportunities to do so.
A three-year starter in multiple sports, Adams found success through countless hours of practice, both on and off the field. He credits his coaches—including Jim McQuaide, Dan Flaherty, and Eric Flannery ’90—with believing in him, pushing him to improve, and helping shape his competitive drive. After the passing of his father, Robert's Uncle John—affectionately known as “Unc”—along with his aunts Barb and Julie and Uncle Steve, became especially important sources of support. They attended every game throughout Adams’ high school career, cheering him on every step of the way.
Football became the sport where his preparation and determination translated into record-breaking performances. He earned All-Ohio Second Team Offense while establishing himself as one of the most productive quarterbacks in school history. He set two school single-game records with four touchdown passes and 356 passing yards. His 1993 season produced three new single-season records: 1,829 passing yards, 15 touchdown passes, and a 60.4 percent completion rate. By the end of his career, he held five individual school records, including 3,178 passing yards, 23 touchdown passes, 3,113 yards of total offense, and 194 completed passes.
One of Adams’ most enduring memories came in a triple-overtime battle against rival Saint Ignatius before more than 12,000 fans at First Federal Lakewood Stadium. With just 25 seconds remaining in regulation, Adams threw a game-tying 35-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Knestrick '94 to force overtime. Although the Eagles ultimately fell, it was a game—and a moment—Adams says he will never forget.
Today, Adams works as an account executive in sales for Abode Care Partners and lives in Middleburg Heights. He previously spent 13 years coaching football, continuing his connection to the game and sharing his experience with a new generation of athletes. He and his wife, Jan, have been married for 19 years and are the parents of Brady (17) and Cassidy (15).
