Part-Time Percussion Instructor (Temporary, 2024 Band Season)

St. Edward High School (SEHS) is a premier private boys' Catholic college preparatory high school in Lakewood, Ohio. Position Description: St. Edward High School has a fantastic opportunity available for a Percussion instructor for our 2024 band season, beginning June 1 and working through the end of band season in November/December. The percussion instructor will be tasked with teaching battery and front ensemble basic playing and movement techniques, part placement, and performance preparation. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Teach all music for performances to the battery and front ensemble with mastery in mind

  • Ensure band activities support the school’s mission and provide a safe and supportive band experience

  • Exhibit appropriate, professional behavior, positive attitude, and work ethic as expected by a youth leader 

  • Attend the majority of band rehearsals and all adjudicated performances

  • Work closely with the Band Director and Assistant Band Director to understand deadlines, modify parts as needed, and support and enforce school rules and standards

  • Keep students engaged and create a culture of participation and respect

  • Perform other band-related duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Exhibit a passion for music

  • Proficiency in playing and instructing others to play percussion instruments

  • Minimum two years of experience in music instruction preferred.  Past participation in competitive marching bands or drum corps is desired.

  • Experience writing for percussion, both battery and front ensemble

  • Excellent organizational and time management & communication skills

  • Successful criminal background screening and VIRTUS training

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Keeping the school clean is the overall responsibility of the custodian. Applicants must be available to work school games and school events as needed. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Replenishing stock in bathrooms

  • Cleaning bathrooms

  • Gathering and emptying trash

  • Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors

  • Monitoring building safety and security

  • Dusting all hard surfaces

  • Moving heavy furniture to reach corners and crevices of covered parts of the room

  • Cleaning laboratory equipment, such as computers and tables

Qualifications:

  • Reading and verbal comprehension

  • Coordination, along with manual dexterity and proper lifting methods

  • Equipment selection and proper equipment techniques

  • Proven to be trustworthy, honest, and respectful of students and adults

  • Possess the willingness and ability to support the Mission of St. Edward High School

  • Successful criminal background screening and VIRTUS training

Paid vacation time is available to our full-time workforce, and paid holiday time is available for both full-time and part-time positions.

High School Music Teacher and Marching Band Director (2024-25 Band Season)

Duties and Responsibilities: 

The St. Edward Marching Eagles has a fantastic opportunity available for a Band/Concert Director for the 2024-25 Marching Band and Concert seasons. The Marching Eagles are a corps-style competitive marching band. They are consistent OMEA State Finalists, earning superior ratings at the state level for nine of the last ten years. They also compete in BOA and LMBA circuits most seasons, in addition to performing at most varsity football games and community events.


Duties of the Marching Band Director include but are not limited to:

  • Instruct and administer all aspects of the marching, concert, and jazz bands

  • Teach or co-teach music courses throughout the school year, including IB Music classes

  • Create a "Pep Band" that plays during home non-football athletic events

  • Support and uphold St. Edward High School's mission by instilling a diverse culture of learning and respect among all students

  • Hold band and concert auditions and determine the best spot for each student member

  • Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in band and concerts

  • Select music to perform

  • Develop methods to recruit and retain students for band and concert programs

  • Oversee the marching band staff, including recruiting, mentoring, and supervising

  • Teach during at-home band camp and away band camp

  • Teach and supervise rehearsals and performances, administering corrective action steps when needed

  • Organize with the Transportation Coordinator transportation needs for band members and staff

  • Chaperone at performances and bus rides as needed

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all band equipment, uniforms, flags, batons, etc.

  • Determine and follow through with the maintenance, repair, cleaning, and storage of all band equipment and uniforms

  • Keep a working binder of all source material

  • Always ensure the safety of students

  • Supervise and meet with the Assistant Band Director before and after each rehearsal to plan

  • Work with the Music Department Chair for all band expenditures, including stipend payments to band staff

  • Keep accurate records of all entry fees and expenses incurred by the band, receipts, payments, and deposits, and submit to Finance as required

  • Serve as an advisor to the Band Booster Association and liaison to the school administration

  • Work with the school's marketing to prepare news media and social media releases

  • Communicate regularly with the SEHS community the Band's event schedule and Band's standing in competition

  • Complete any additional tasks as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Five or more years of experience as a high school Band or Concert Director

  • Ability to demonstrate their competency to lead the Marching Eagles

  • Experience working with drill writing software

  • Demonstrate a growth mindset for the continual development of the band and concert programs

  • Hold a valid Music Ohio teaching license

  • A bachelor's degree in music education

  • Present an enthusiastic love of music and genuinely enjoy working with teens, along with having a positive, professional image and an energetic demeanor

  • Possess the willingness and ability to support the Mission of St. Edward High School

  • Successful criminal background screening and VIRTUS training

 

Marching Eagles band rehearsals are after school three days a week. Performances occur at all home varsity football games, select away varsity football games, competitions, and parades throughout the season.​

Full-Time Intervention Specialist (2024-25 School Year)

St. Edward High School has a fantastic opportunity available for an Intervention Specialist to assist us with designing and implementing individualized programs for our students with special educational and social adjustment needs.

Duties: 

  • Following the Mission of St. Edward High School, maintains a professional demeanor and works to shape the student's behavior in ways allowing everyone to learn and communicate their views.  

  • Speaks regularly with counselors, other faculty members, parents, and students to provide positive learning experiences and identify and solve any problems or difficulties the student encounters throughout the school year.  

  • Supports students with academic, social, and behavioral needs; designs, writes, and implements individual programs that best fit the student's ability to learn and make appropriate choices.

  • Maintains a safe, nurturing learning environment, reporting any threats or safety concerns the student may be experiencing to the Dean of Student Services and school Principal.

  • May assist with monitoring students during assemblies, field trips, fire drills, mass, etc.

  • Employees must be willing and able to uphold the pillars of St. Edward HS, including Faith, Excellence, Relationships, and Servant Leadership. They must also participate in St. Edward HS-sponsored activities related to our school's Mission, including outreach and admissions.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Bachelor's degree in special education

  • License with the Ohio Department of Education

  • Demonstrated success working with special needs students.

  • Proven ability to design effective programs for alternate learners.

  • Proficient knowledge of classroom policies and procedures.

  • Successful completion of an FBI/BCI criminal background check.

  • Outstanding communication skills, verbal and written.

  • Excellent observation and analytical techniques.

  • Available to work extended hours when required to meet with parents.

  • Experience in developing and administering Individualized Education Programs.
