WITH THEM AND OF THEM

2023-2024 SCHOOL THEME

“Christ was anointed to bring good news to the poor, release for prisoners, sight for the blind, restoration for every broken victim. Our efforts, which are His, reach out to the afflicted and in a preferential way to the poor and the oppressed. We come not just as servants but as their neighbors, to be WITH THEM AND OF THEM.” - Holy Cross Constitutions 2:13

When Blessed Basil Moreau, C.S.C. founded the Congregation of Holy Cross, he did so with a special love for the most vulnerable. His vision was rooted in a missionary commitment to accompany the poor and those who society had deemed unworthy. Moreau’s respect and compassion for all inspire our 2023-2024 School theme, WITH THEM AND OF THEM.

Throughout the Gospels, we see examples of Jesus entering people’s lives in moments of sadness, desperation, and suffering. In and through Jesus, the downtrodden, the readily left out, and the easily despised, encountered the immense love God seeks to wrap the world in.

Building on that, a central pillar of St. Ed’s Holy Cross Mission is servant leadership; a call for each of us to commit ourselves in solidarity to the marginalized populations of today. We are challenged to go beyond simply serving others; to stand shoulder-to-shoulder and become one with them, to build relationships of love and compassion in Jesus’ style, so that, like Blessed Moreau, we might build up the reign of God.

As we give special focus to servant leadership this School year, the entire St. Ed’s community is invited to participate in our various outreach ministries in a way that is meaningful to your personal spiritual journey. Our mission is the Lord’s, and we go about this important work with renewed zeal, joy, and faith, strengthened by the same love that gives each of us a tender heart.
