Full-Time Theology Instructor (2024-25 Academic Year)

St. Edward High School (SEHS) is a premier private boys' Catholic college preparatory high school in Lakewood, Ohio. Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Teaches full-time, including five (5) periods (60-minutes on a rotating schedule) and an advisory group

  • Supports the school's Holy Cross mission to shape the minds and hearts of its students through its extra-curricular activities, service-learning program and retreats

  • Follows course objectives of the St. Edward curriculum and our approach to the USCCB Curriculum Framework 

  • Unit and lesson planning based on the International Baccalaureate's MYP and DP standards 

  • Works collaboratively with fellow teachers to design and deliver authentic instruction and assessment

  • Open to collaborating on and delivering interdisciplinary units with colleagues in other Departments

  • Maintains classroom control and student behavior, allowing everyone the opportunity to learn

  • Pursues professional development opportunities on a regular basis

  • Collaborates with intervention specialists, St. Andre Scholars staff, tutors, counselors, and other supports to foster the learning of all students

  • Works directly with team teachers and tutors to provide assistance and support for struggling students 

  • Communicates with counselors, learning professionals, parents and students to maintain a positive learning experience and identify any problems or difficulties

  • Communicates with parents and students by posting lesson plans, sample work and grades on a regular basis on the school's learning management system based on contract specifications

  • Maintains flexible hours within contract specifications, providing time before school, during community period and after school for additional help, individualized instruction, mentoring or guidance of independent projects

  • Participates in other department and community activities related to outreach, admissions, and the like

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in theology, Religious Studies, Religious Education, Spirituality, or a closely related field; Master's Degree preferred

  • Has at least five years of demonstrated successful teaching experience in a high school theology classroom

  • Master Catechist status preferred

  • Embodies, transmits, and inspires the values of the Congregation of Holy Cross, specifically the mission of educating hearts and minds

  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills; is able and willing to lead collaborative initiatives; and is a team player

  • Understands and supports the culture, mission and vision of St. Edward High School

  • Has demonstrated abilities in forming strong relationships with students, colleagues, and other school constituency groups

  • Is able to lovingly and enthusiastically work with non-Catholic Christians, non-Christians, and atheist students in a supportive and respectful manner

  • Is enthusiastic about collaboration with colleagues in coordinating liturgies, retreats, and other major campus ministry events

  • Understands the complexities and nuances of the Catholic faith, Catholic Social Teaching, and ministries of accompaniment and inclusion in the spirit of the Congregation of Holy Cross

    • Is fully capable of having pastoral conversations with students, faculty/staff members, and other community members

Goals: The Fine Arts Department of St. Edward High School aims to hire a dynamic teacher who will empower our students to create authentic project-based work that will prepare them for visual expression and storytelling at the collegiate level and beyond. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Reimagines our Fine Arts offerings/courses to prepare students for success in the arts in the 21st century.

  • Teaches full-time, including five periods (60 minutes on a rotating schedule) and an advisory group.

  • Plans units and lessons based on the International Baccalaureate's MYP and DP standards. 

  • Works collaboratively with fellow teachers to design and deliver authentic instruction and assessment.

  • Maintains (and establishes new) relationships with community partners and foundations that support the arts, including contributing to local art competitions and festivals that can externally validate student work.

  • Collaborates with intervention specialists, St. Andre Scholars staff, tutors, counselors, and other supports to foster the learning of all students.

Position Description: Reports to the Math Department Chair, Dean of Academics, and Principal

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Teaches full-time, including five classes plus an assigned duty 

  • Follows course objectives of the St. Edward curriculum, based on Ohio’s Learning Standards in Mathematics

  • Works collaboratively with fellow teachers to design and deliver authentic instruction and assessment of Mathematics skills using the IB Middle Years Framework

  • Works with other departments to provide interdisciplinary support and to develop cross-curricular units

  • Maintains classroom control and pupil behavior, allowing everyone the opportunity to learn

  • Works directly with team teachers and counselors, learning professionals, parents, and students to maintain a positive learning experience and identify any problems or difficulties

  • Communicates with parents and students by posting lesson plans and grades regularly based on contract specifications

  • Pursues professional development regularly following all State of Ohio requirements for a valid State of Ohio teaching license

  • Maintains flexible hours within contract specifications, providing time before or after school and during Community Period for additional help, individualized instruction, mentoring, or guidance in independent projects

  • Supervises or moderates extracurricular activities as assigned

  • Participates in other department and community activities related to outreach, admissions, and others

Qualifications:

  • State of Ohio license in Integrated Mathematics (9-12) or non-tax teaching certificate

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s degree preferred

Part-Time Percussion Instructor (Temporary, 2024 Band Season)

Position Description: St. Edward High School has a fantastic opportunity available for a Percussion instructor for our 2024 band season, beginning June 1 and working through the end of band season in November/December. The percussion instructor will be tasked with teaching battery and front ensemble basic playing and movement techniques, part placement, and performance preparation. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Teach all music for performances to the battery and front ensemble with mastery in mind

  • Ensure band activities support the school’s mission and provide a safe and supportive band experience

  • Exhibit appropriate, professional behavior, positive attitude, and work ethic as expected by a youth leader 

  • Attend the majority of band rehearsals and all adjudicated performances

  • Work closely with the Band Director and Assistant Band Director to understand deadlines, modify parts as needed, and support and enforce school rules and standards

  • Keep students engaged and create a culture of participation and respect

  • Perform other band-related duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Exhibit a passion for music

  • Proficiency in playing and instructing others to play percussion instruments

  • Minimum two years of experience in music instruction preferred.  Past participation in competitive marching bands or drum corps is desired.

  • Experience writing for percussion, both battery and front ensemble

  • Excellent organizational and time management & communication skills

  • Successful criminal background screen and VIRTUS training

Duties and Responsibilities: 

St. Edward High School has an opportunity available for an experienced science educator to provide tutoring in all aspects of science learning. In this full-time role, you will:

  • Provide individual and small group tutoring to students.

  • Assist students in improving academic achievement by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify learning problems and work on study skills.

  • Review class materials with students and discuss the text, lab work, and homework assignments.

  • Assist students with exam preparation and possibly project completion.

  • Formulate ideas to work on solutions to problems a student exhibits.

  • Keep notes on students' progress to share with science faculty, counselors, and possibly parents.

 

The science tutor works closely with counselors, science faculty, and, as needed, the Intervention team.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in science with some teaching or tutoring experience

  • Be an effective communicator 

  • Show a proven ability and willingness to work with a diverse group of students, engaging with students at the level they need to comprehend the subject matter

  • Possess the willingness and ability to support the mission of St. Edward High School 

  • Successful criminal background screen and VIRTUS training
