EAGLES ON FOOT HISTORY
Since 2008, the annual Eagles on Foot 5k run and 1 mile walk has benefited Basil Moreau School, St. Edward High School’s sister school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Founded by Holy Cross in 1989, Basil Moreau School serves 650 low-income children in the neighborhood of Carrefour in Port-au-Prince. Eagles on Foot took on added significance in January 2010 when Basil Moreau School was heavily damaged in the earthquake that ravaged Haiti. The primary school building was severely damaged, and the secondary school building was completely destroyed. In the years since the quake the Congregation of Holy Cross has made a tremendous effort to restore and rebuild the school, remaining steadfast in their mission to provide quality education to the people of Port-au-Prince.
EXPANDING OUR OUTREACH
In 2022, St. Ed's moved the Eagles on Foot race to Homecoming/Reunion Weekend and broadened the purpose of the race to encompass our Holy Cross mission in two aspects:
-
To provide micro-grants to Holy Cross Schools in need, like in Haiti, and
-
To provide financial aid to students participating in St. Ed's planned service immersion trips. These life-changing trips help build Servant Leadership qualities in our students that last a lifetime. To learn more about these trips and why they are so important, watch the video below.
Check out this video that explains how funds raised from this event will make a difference to St. Ed's students!
