St. Edward to Host USA Basketball Coach Academy


Eric Flannery  is one of the featured speakers at the USA Basketball Cleveland Coach Academy. Flannery is the head boys basketball coach at St. Edward High School, and he helped lead USA Basketball to gold medals as an assistant coach for the 2013 USA U16 and 2014 USA U17 men's national teams.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO (July 18, 2017) - The USA Basketball Cleveland Coach Academy - Presented by Nike, will take place on Aug. 4-6 at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio.

Coach academies provide valuable insight and education to coaches and administrators of basketball. Academy sessions impart the USA Basketball curriculum for a proper skill development path to teach the game to players of all ages and ability levels. Additionally, guest speakers deliver on and off court sessions on basketball and leadership topics.

Check-in for the Cleveland coach academy is from 6:30-7 p.m. (all times are CDT) on Aug. 4, and the first sessions will run from 7-9 p.m. that evening. On Aug. 5, sessions run from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and on Aug. 6from 9 a.m.-12:45 p.m.

The cost of registration is $185 and includes on and off the court presentations, Nike/USA Basketball gift items, catered meals, a USA Basketball memorabilia viewing, networking time and training for a USA Basketball 2017-18 coach license. The presenters are highlighted by Don Showalter, USA Basketball coach development director and an eight-time USA Basketball Developmental Coach of the Year award winner; Koby Altman, assistant general manager, pro personnel for Cleveland Cavaliers; Jerrod Calhoun, head men's basketball coach at Youngstown State University; Keith Dambrot, head men's basketball coach at Duquesne University; Dennis Felton, head men's basketball coach Cleveland State University; Eric Flannery, head boys basketball coach at St. Edward High School and a gold-medal winning USA Basketball U16 and U17 assistant coach; Cheri Harrer, head women's basketball coach at Baldwin Wallace University; Chris Holtmann, head men's basketball coach at Ohio State University; Tom Izzo, head men's basketball coach at Michigan State University; Clark Kellogg, college basketball analyst for CBS Sports; Dave Lower, Athletes in Action; and John Spezia, owner, general manager and head coach of the Illinois Coal Miners (CBA).
