Best of the Week 2020-2021: Holy Cross Values

A HOLY CROSS WELCOME TO 7th GRADERS - ST. ED'S HOSTS IN-PERSON 7th GRADE PREVIEW DAYS

This week, St. Ed's welcomed 150 7th grade students from local grade schools for our annual 7th Grade Preview Days. St. Ed's successfully hosted both 7th Grade Preview days on Tuesday and Thursday in-person to provide students with a full St. Ed's experience. Unlike the traditional 8th grade Edsman for a Day program, 7th Grade Preview days offer classes and activities that are designed specifically for 7th graders so they can be active participants and experience our project-based approach to learning. "This event provides a unique preview of our community to prospective students before we welcome them back to campus in the fall as 8th graders for an Edsman for a Day visit, Open House tour, and the Admission Test," says Director of Admission Dan Mackin '04. While spending a whole day on campus, students not only got to see all that St. Ed's has to offer, but engaged with current Edsmen and teachers throughout a day-long cycle of five courses. Students were able to interact with each other throughout various hands-on activities and had a blast working on mini engineering projects with Engineering Department Chair JC Froelich, using professional filming equipment with Film Department Chair Lydia Munnell, and creating their own eagle head pottery pieces with Fine Arts teacher Molly King. From engaging in a science experiment with Science teacher Peter Pappas to an in-depth history lesson with Social Studies teachers Sean Cahill and Matt Levindofske, our visiting 7th graders had the chance to experience a day in the life of a St. Edward student.
