'MEN OF HOPE,' A NEW STUDENT ORGANIZATION PROVIDES PLATFORM FOR STUDENTS TO GROW AS BROTHERS

Men of Hope is a new student organization designed to teach our students core skills and essential knowledge needed to create a solid foundation to overcome adversity on the path to becoming successful and well-rounded young men. Under the leadership of Student Transitions & Inclusion Manager Royal Eddie '13, Men of Hope was derived from St. Ed's Holy Cross mission that encourages students to have the "courage to act as men of hope for the transformation of the world." To help students feel empowered and valued, Men of Hope will host weekly meetings where students can discuss topics from how to properly use the resources available to them at St. Ed's and how to ask for help, to how to believe in their abilities, lift each other up, and overcome daily challenges. "I wanted to create an organization that would have been beneficial for students like myself back when I attended St. Ed's. I didn't naturally have skills that made me a successful student and I needed positive role models to teach me the value of time management, accountability, punctuality, and building character," says Mr. Eddie. "I believe it is key for us to remember that each student comes from a different socioeconomic background. We must never assume that every student is given the same opportunities or foundational teaching. As educators, we must use our platform to educate and guide our students to use their natural gifts and abilities, while acquiring new skills to become the best version of themselves."
