Best of the Week 2022-2023: Holy Cross Values
FOCUSING ON THE HEART & MIND, ST. ED'S LAUNCHES WEEKLY MEDITATION CLUB FOR THE COMMUNITY
With the start of the new year, many enjoy setting intentions for the year ahead and putting more focus into the daily actions to practice mental and physical wellness. Prioritizing both the heart and the mind, Principal Matt Stepnowsky and Vice President of Faith, Mission and Culture Owen Williams '13 have collaborated to launch St. Ed's Meditation Club which began this week.
"Mr. Stepnowsky and I both meditate daily, and we thought a weekly Meditation Club would be a great way to invite the community to start the day feeling made new together through this opportunity for fellowship and mindfulness," says Mr. Williams. Using a combination of guided and self-guided meditation practices, the Meditation Club meets weekly every Wednesday and Friday mornings in the Holy Family Chapel before the school day begins to practice intentional breathing exercises and learn how to recognize their physical presence and "be where their feet are."
"Holy Cross education is unique because of its focus on the whole person - the heart and the mind together. Meditation is a wonderful way to tend to our hearts and souls, to make room for all the transformational experiences happening at St. Ed's daily," says Mr. Williams. "With each meeting, I hope our students, faculty and staff gain new experiences and skills in living a mindful life. Our lives are so busy, and we hope that this time spent together will teach every individual about the beauty of letting their souls catch up."
